What it is
Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a hormone that is produced in the adrenal glands. It's sometimes referred to as a “precursor” hormone or "prohormone" because it's the starting material in the production of testosterone and other important hormones. DHEA is the most abundant circulating hormone in the body—but as we age, DHEA levels begin to decline.
Studies indicate that maintaining optimal DHEA levels may offer a variety of health benefits, including, positive effects on energy levels (Source), supporting executive function, concentration, and working memory (Source1, Source 2), improving resistance to stress (Source1, Source 2), decreases insulin resistance (Source), as well as improving immune function (Source).
